Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American philosopher, poet, and essayist. He was the leader of the Transcendentalist movement in the early 19th century. His voice and beliefs greatly influenced the Growing New Thought movement of today.

In his classic Nature he connects the life force found in Nature to the divinity within all of us. Emerson's religious views were often considered radical at the time. He believed that all things are connected to God and, therefore, all things are divine including ourselves.
